Easy as one, two, three, four ...

On April 11th, I cast my vote using this super schnazzy voting package I received in the post that day:

Thank you Elections Canada for this super easy to follow, time relevant process!

Easy, that is, if you enjoy myriad envelopes and ill-tasting envelope paste and are able to locate (unassisted) the names of the constituents in your riding (no web link was included in any of the instructions included in the voting package) and can get it all back to Ottawa for either April 26th or May 2nd, depending on which of the instruction sets you opt to follow: no sir, there is none of that there in-ter-net or digital age stuff in our votin' process in Canada!

The paper system also ensures that one must post one's vote in plenty of time - long before the final opinion polls have been conducted and the final election issues have unfolded. Given the time it seems to take letters to arrive to Canada, I turned this bad boy around within 24 hours and sure hope it has made its way to Ottawa.

I will confess to feeling a bit ripped off in having had to cast my vote so far in advance, but still, I am grateful to have had the chance to vote. Now here's hoping there is some serious voter turnout tomorrow, Canada (hint hint!).

I actually like voting well in advance (or, as early as the advance polls will let me). When I lived in BC, it always felt like my vote didn't really count - they would basically call the election before the BC ballots were even closed!

Better to have that feeling of "counting", in my opinion! Also, good on you for making the effort to cast a ballot - I imagine a lot of people don't bother with those hoops.

Interesting point of view, Bri - I have never had the opportunity to be a west coast voter, but I can definitely see the issue.
Did you keep up the advanced voting trend even now that you are so far east??

I did vote early! And it was actually my first time using the advance polls, which was great. No lines and super quick!
