tio / these are a few of my favourite things

Door number ten ...

In the last week we have had some really nice comments about the blog - guess it helps when you post more regularly :) It has been great to hear your positive feedback - we never know who is reading along! Inspired, day ten seemed like the perfect time to take stock of our advent calendar offerings (to date!) and to work on a little reader input... yes, we are going to try our first ever Swedish Murmurings Poll!

Of course we want to know what you think of the items that have been popping out of the calendar, but we didn't want you to think we were just doing market research for the Body Shop, so decided to ask a few other seasonal questions that we would love to know your answers to as well :)

And so, allow me to introduce our 'These are a few of my favourite things' poll!

What is your favourite ...
1) Christmas treat? (anything eaten over the Christmas season)
2) Christmas tree decoration? (you can tell us why or where it came from or any other salient details)
3) Item from our advent calendar so far?

To submit your answers, click on the word 'comments' below (it will have a number beside the word), type in your answers, and post your comment (we will take answers in English, Swedish or French)! You can enter a mail account or post as a guest. If you opt for the later, you may want to add you name to your comment so we know who you are :)   (if you are very anti blog commenting, you can also send top secret answers to one of us by email)

Comments will be tabulated, summerated and reporterated on day 15, so don't wait too long!

Now before we go ... today's photo update! Given my aforementioned dreaming of snow, this seemed rather fitting (and LONG overdue).

Last April we headed to Abisko and Riksgränsen in northern Sweden with our friends Rob and Juliette for some off-piste ski adventures! And, whilst at Riksgränsen, we fulfilled a long standing dream for both Rob and me ...

 Hello heli-skiing!!!

We had gorgeous blue skies and sunshine which followed a snow storm, so pretty decent snow on the slopes :)

And making for two pretty happy fellows.

And the icing on the cake: I got to fly the helicopter on the way home!

 snowy bliss.

- My mom's candied almonds. My dad's homemade eggnog is a close second. I also quite enjoy almond snowball cookies.

2) Christmas tree decoration? (you can tell us why or where it came from or any other salient details)
- Hmm. I love them all! We try and buy at least one special one per year. Last year's - a Christmas pickle!

3) Item from our advent calendar so far?
- Your daily blog posts!

Well hello there ladies - what a good start to the poll!

Good one, Kim! (re: A #3) Bonus survey points to you ;)

@ Becca - I think that is my dad's fave part too - we would put the lights on together, then some gold balls he and my mum maid on their first Christmas together, then dad would sit in his chair and watch as the rest of us 'ruined' his perfect tree. Fortunately he was a pretty darn good sport about having our hand made items and other assorted bits and pieces go up :)

@ Camilla - jag med! Jag måste tänka om när jag kan laga julskinka ... och snart! Det är sååååååå gott!

1. Christmas cake.
2. We just decorated the BIG tree we cut down last weekend at a tree farm run by Bruce Trail supporters. The Christmas carols CDs help to transport us to seasons past, at church and at school concerts. After the white lights went on (not blue this year,) the gold sparkle-covered balls we made on our first Christmas, 44 years ago, went on first. Dad started adding the other ornaments without complaint. What a collection and precious memories of the people who gave them to us. The favourite this year may be the tiny Mora (sp?) horse, reminding us of a fun weekend with you in 2010.
3.Enjoying hearing what you've been doing and seeing your Christmas goodies and decorating! Your "tree" and hallway look lovely! XXOOXX

1) Christmas treat - tempted to go with something chocolatey, but I have to pick mandarin oranges. Not clementines - proper mandarins, from Japan.
2) Christmas tree decoration - my first ornament, which is one of those engraved 'baby's first christmas' ornaments. It's at my parents house to go on their tree.
3) Item from our advent calendar so far - the handcream on day five looks good for those dry winter days!

Welcome to the blog, mum! Your Christmas cake is definitely vote worthy for fave treat; have you tried this year's batch yet?!? Soooo yummy!

That's very healthy of you, Bri - I hope you are chasing those authentic mandarins with some authentic chocolate treats ;) The handcream is quite luxe, I might add!

Sten! So nice to hear your (written) voice. Hang in there and hope the details in the new house are coming together. Looks like it was quite the bunch of renos you guys have been working through - sending Total Energy vibes your way!

1. Favourite treat ... pretty much anything homemade and chocolate. There's some truffles I plan to try tonight, that I'm very much looking forward to!
2. Ornament ... I wouldn't consider it my favourite, but the most memorable is the one that has a horrible picture of me in grade 6 on it, that my family insists on placing front and center on our tree (high enough that i can't reach it, but is still very visible)
3. Depends ... how soft is the brush-type thing?
